The Society was established in April 1977 as the Wessex Section of the British Koi Keepers Society to promote the hobby of Koi Keeping.  The original members sought to improve their knowledge in keeping these very colourful fish and help others to do the same.  In 1985 The Society by majority vote became independent and changed its name to the Wessex & Southern Koi Society.  Today the Society has the same objectives, although the hobby is a far cry from those early days when very little was known as compared with today's vast know-how.  Nishikigoi, more commonly known as Koi, need the right conditions to survive and flourish.  Koi require the right type of pool constructed with an efficient mechanical and biological filter system, sufficient oxygen in the water, and the correct feeding methods applied.  The best way to obtain this information is to read all the publications available on the subject and, most importantly, join one of the many societies where you will meet friendly like-minded Koi Keepers.  There is no substitute for experience, and members are always willing to help when it is needed.

Do you live in the Wessex & Southern area of the UK?

In particular do you live close to these towns or cities?

Bournemouth - Poole - Wareham  - Blandford Forum  - Shaftesbury  -  Salisbury  - Lyndhurst  - Lymington  - Christchurch or within this catchment area and, elsewhere.

Do you keep, or would you like to keep, Koi?

If the answers to the above are favourable, then why not join

The Wessex & Southern Koi Society.

Our activities include:

Coach trips to meet other Koi Societies whereby you can see how other people look after their fish.  You will see some splendid gardens and, of course, beautiful Koi.  Trips to dealers you may not normally visit, and where you could find that elusive Koi.

Our own members also open their gardens to see not only their gardens, but their pools and fish, either by appointment or on organized Society visits.

We include trips to national and local open Koi Shows where you will see some of the country's finest Koi.
